Netroots Nation ’11 Focuses On Issues President Obama Is Strong On!

As progressives, and those who are making money off of them, gather in Minneapolis, the subjects they are taking on seem to read like the list of President Obama’s accomplishments. I’m not sure many of the organizers or attendees realize it, but in reading down the list of topics, it seems pretty obvious that President Obama’s priorities and the topics up for discussion are very much in line with each other. Some examples…

Topic: Engaging Progressives in the Fight to Save Public Education

Some of President Obama’s accomplishments on Education

Topic: Dirty Energy: The Fight Against Coal, Oil, Natural Gas and Nuclear Power

Some of President Obama’s accomplishments on clean energy and regulating “dirty” energy

  • More than doubled federal spending for research on clean fuels. ref
  • $60 billion in spending and tax incentives for renewable and clean energy. ref
  • Invested $2 billion in solar power, hailed new jobs. ref, ref, ref
  • Doubled funding for bicycling, walking projects ref, ref
  • (DOL) Dedicated $100 million in Energy Training Partnership green jobs training grants. ref
  • $8 billion combined public/pvt funding committed to develop Smart Power Grid (part of ARRA). ref
  • Increased funding for the Environmental Protection Agency. ref
  • Created job training programs in clean technologies for displaced workers. ref
  • Created Green Vet Initiative to promote environmental jobs for veterans. ref
  • Ended the previous policy of not regulating and labeling carbon dioxide emissions. ref
  • Set smog limit: new strict proposal to replace Bush-era rule (EPA). ref ref
  • Required states to provide incentives for utilities to reduce energy consumption. ref

Isn’t it amazing how much President Obama has done for the progressive movement. The accomplishments highlighted above are just some of what our most progressive president EVER has accomplished in 2 and 1/2 years. He accomplished them while battling against lock-step opposition from the right and even carping from a small group on the left – the naive, narcissistic, petty, “what-have-you-done-for-me-lately” crowd. Can you imagine how much more he could have accomplished if that latter group had helped instead of hindered him in the process. It also would have been nice if they had at least acknowledged the fact that he was negotiating with a crazed right-wing and a group of “conservadems” that forced the President to the middle.

But I’m very encouraged to see that Netroots Nation and the President are so in line on the issues. Obama 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Source for the many accomplishments of President Obama. If you Google that sentence, you will see many more accomplishments. I love Google, by the way. I wouldn’t use anything but Google.

  1. Awesome post!!! And don’t forget about how WELL FUNDED that opposition is, and how THEY OWN THE MEDIA.

Just think how much Obama could have accomplished had we actually sent more than the 60 Magical Votes to the Senate and a Supermajority to the House!!!

But instead, a bunch of angry babies stayed home last year in protest, and made it worse. Gee. Thanks.

  2. Gotta say E.L. your post gives me another chance to rant and vent against the firebaggers, could you image the good things that could be going on right now if the House remain Democratic? And thinking about what could be doing now instead of the reality of having a House controlled by lying, hypocritical, sacks of Republican tea party shit should piss off a lot of rational thinking liberals. Instead of moving down ahead we gotta hope and pray the average American voter sees the only plans the Republican house have is to make sure the economy tanks further just so their presidential ticket have a issue to run on. It’s one thing if David Sirota, Cenk Uygur, Jane Hamser, Adam Green,Dan Choi, Dan Savage and king of the self righteous tools Glenn Greenwald had legit policy disagreements but they don’t. Watch any Young Turks video since they turned firebag Cenk position on everything Obama does range from “everything Obama does sucks” to “Obama is a French cheese eating surrender chump” and when Obama does something progressive they swoop in and act like they had a hand in it.

What ticks me off the most is that people are suffering, people are depending on government programs to get them by and people like me who’s been looking for work for the past two years are getting desperate or worried about when the economy will turn for them are stuck because we had a minority of people who damn well knew what would happen if the Republicans took control of either or both chambers of congress but still went on the TV anyway to tell progressives to stay home to send the President and the Democrats a message.

And these fuckwads are at it again, Dan Choi was all about getting “Don’t Ask, Don’t tell” overturned and threaten not to vote for Obama in 2012 if he didn’t, Obama signed the termination of “Don’t ask and Don’t tell” and Choi is still bashing the President. I wish Dan Choi will tell me what will his baseless attack on the president accomplished if get a Republican senate and a clear cut further to the right than George W.Bush Republican President? And if worst come to worst and we do end up with another all Repug government Hamser and the rest can forget getting any help or money from this wing of Democratic Party.

  3. Amazing.
You’d never know how positive and proactive NN is, not based on the press. To hear them tell it, it’s all about bashing the president.

    Thanks for posting this.

  4. Speaking of Firebaggers, Dylan Ratigan, in ranting yesterday about the way he thinks Julian Assange and Bradley Manning are being mistreated, said that President Obama “SHOULD RESIGN”!

Thanks so much for affirming my decision to stop watching MSNBC. I may catch Lawrence O’Donnell every so often, but on a whole, I’ve pretty much given up on that channel.
