Republicans Playing With America’s Future Like They’re Children (Updated)

The current Republican Party has proven in many ways that they don’t have the maturity to lead this country. They cavalierly play around with important issues to many people as if they are children on a playground. Just this week, they have proven there adolescence in many ways.

The Republican’s defense authorization bill, Deaniac83 from The People’s View breaks down this little game of the GOP…

The White House is threatening a veto of the House committee version of the defense authorization bill over Republican attempts to launch a worldwide war without specific targets or reasons, block detainee transfer from Guantanamo, and mess with the president’s efforts to reduce active nuclear warheads under the new START treaty. It is also warning Congress against complicating the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Not that you would have heard about this if you read Glenn Greenwald, self-proclaimed Constitutional hero of the anti-war movement.

So once again, Republicans are playing games and purposely adding provisions to bills that they know the President will not support. It’s all one big fucking game to these people. For the last two and a half years, they (mostly white men) have been playing all sorts of games with women’s reproductive rights, even though Roe vs. Wade is “established law” and the federal government already doesn’t allow federal funding for abortions. But that hasn’t stopped them from introducing countless bills almost daily since the children were handed the keys to the car. Rachel Maddow has a great clip that spells out the priorities of these children…

And for all those victims and families in Joplin Missouri, well they have a game for them too, it’s called “Screw You, Unless We Can Screw Someone Else Too”. Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) showed just how caring he is towards the people who just had nearly their entire town blown away by a tornado. Here’s a little bit from ThinkProgress…

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), however, said that before Congress approved federal funds for disaster relief, it had to offset the spending with cuts to other programs. The Washington Times reports:

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said Monday that if Congress passes an emergency spending bill to help Missouri’s tornado victims, the extra money will have to be cut from somewhere else.

If there is support for a supplemental, it would be accompanied by support for having pay-fors to that supplemental,” Mr. Cantor, Virginia Republican, told reporters at the Capitol. The term “pay-fors” is used by lawmakers to signal cuts or tax increases used to pay for new spending.

And of course what makes this so maddening is that during the Bush terms, Republicans ran up debts like crazy, two unfunded wars, Medicare Part D, massive tax cuts to the rich which weren’t paid for and created the mess we are in now with the debt. Personally, I don’t want to hear them say a damn thing about deficits until they repeal Bush’s tax cuts and raise them on people who can afford it.

This next little bit of stupidity from the right shows both their immaturity and stupidity, a “twofer” so to speak. The Republican network, Fox News, got all kinds of outraged that the White House is stepping up efforts to counter online attacks on the president and to correct falsehoods. Why would that get Fox News so upset, I don’t understand. From Media Matters for America…

Yesterday, the Huffington Post reported that White House staffer Jesse Lee would be filling a new position “for helping coordinate rapid response to unfavorable stories and fostering and improving relations with the progressive online community.” Huffington Post further reported that “the White House will be adopting a more aggressive engagement in the online world in the months ahead.” Fox, the leading cable news source for anti-Obama smears, did not care for this development. Observe:

So to Karl Rove, arguably the king of smear campaigns, the Obama administration’s attempt to push back on the many lies and distortions about him, his administration and his record is tantamount to “the most vicious, negative, re-election campaign that we’ve seen.” Forgive me for laughing.

And then they go on to get it all wrong and said that it was “just” to counter online criticism from the left. They apparently didn’t read the memo. Children, these are children who have been given the keys to the big ole car and they can’t even see over the fucking steering wheel. And they haven’t had their afternoon naps or their snacks, for that matter. I wish we could just sit back and laugh at these boneheads, but they are in control of the House of Representatives right now and have a “majority” of 47 in the Senate (filibuster), so we can’t afford to just sit back and laugh. We have to go out and elect Democrats, damn it. This isn’t playtime, this is serious business governing our country and trying to fix the monumental mess that the previous bonehead left for the new administration. The media just plays along with them too, pushing them on the swing set, retrieving foul balls for them, cheering for them on the sidelines and acting like bullies when need be. The Republican Party is a fucking joke and playtime is over.

UPDATE: More games that screw with our democracy in America. ThinkProgress has this story about Republicans preventing the President from making any recess appointments, which is about the only way our President has been able to fulfill his duties to staff the government. Fucking children.

Senate Republicans will prevent the Senate from recessing next week in order to halt President Obama’s ability to make temporary recess appointments:

President Barack Obama won’t be able to make any executive recess appointments when senators are home next week for the Memorial Day recess – including Elizabeth Warren, Obama’s pick to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

The Senate will be in “pro forma session” because Republicans are threatening to block adjournment, Senate leadership aides said. A senator who lives in nearby Virginia or Maryland will be asked to briefly open and close the session on those days, during which time no business will be conducted.

  1. The REICH are destroying Roe v. Wade with an onslaught of anti-choice legislation in the states. Gov. Rick Perry is signing our new “sonogram” law telling a woman AND HER DOCTOR how they must act before an abortion. Perry also okay-ed a new state “vanity license plate”…”Choose Life!” (in a state that executes as many inmates as the rest of the nation combined!). In time, the Supreme Court ruling will just be a joke on paper.

The REICH wingnuts are undermining our rights in other areas, too. For example,
Federal Judge Lynn Hughes, a Raygun appointee (and a “best friend” of oil giant…BP), has ruled that a fundie pastor, selected to give a prayer at the Houston National Veterans Cemetery on Memorial Day, can make his a sectarian prayer, invoking…”in the name of Jesus Christ, the risen Lord, that I pray. Amen”

Rabbi Mark J. Miller, of Houston’s Congregation Beth Israel, called Rainey’s prayer “beautiful” but said that “it is a prayer to which I and many others cannot say ‘Amen.’ When we, as a religious community, join together at special moments like Memorial Day, our strength will only increase if we can stand united before God.”

Already the REICH-wingers are touting the Federal Judge’s ruling a victory over the “Mad Libs”.

If the military draft is ever re-instituted, will anyone belonging to Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, atheists, etc. be EXEMPT from serving our nation??? The Houston cemetery already has many soldiers laying in rest who are from all religious backgrounds, even including non-believers and maybe even a GAY soldier or two!

  2. Just on our noon news…our secessionist Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who gave adamant “NO’s” while running for re-election last year when asked about whether he would quit his job and run for President, today says that he is “considering” throwing his hat in the presidential race. Our teabagging metrosexual governor has become a favorite choice of Rush Limbaugh. But he could hurt Sarah Palin’s chances by playing to her religious fundie fan base.

  3. Seems many of the bikers in Rolling Thunder don’t appreciate Sarah Palin inviting herself to their Memorial Day Weekend in D.C. in essence “stealing their thunder”! One organizer of the even told Andrea Mitchell that Palin knows that a half million will be there and she wants the publicity. Rolling Thunder says they are NOT a political group, doesn’t endorse anyone and this weekend was supposed to be about veterans killed in the line of duty, NOT ALL ABOUT PALIN!

  4. Have you seen Anthony Weiner’s Floor speech to the repubs on needing to own their plan to gut Medicare? It’s priceless!
