Some Quick Hits From Around The Internets, But Please Don’t Inhale!

I’ve posted many times about polls on this blog, having some schooling in the subject. Now the pollsters are polling about polls.

And if you missed our awesome President on 60 minutes, JM Ashby put it up here to watch. You really should watch it, much more reliable than the media filters.

All the discussion about Hillary in that Situation Room photo, well, how about we just remove her from the picture like this newspaper did.

I totally agree with this, why doesn’t Andrew Breitbart just get a job already.

Wow, is Bill Maher trying to get attention using a racial slur and stereotype?

Check out some more great photos from the parade and protest in Benton Harbor, Michigan on Saturday.

And last, but not least, what fun would a Monday be without calling out Glenn Greenwald on his bullshit?

  1. Greenwald = sympathizer to Osama bin Laden because like Bush, bin Laden is Greenwald’s best friend.

  2. The Texas Legislature is running out of time on this session, may have to call a “special session” later in the summer (of course the pols get extra pay). The NUMBER ONE topic should be that Texas is BILLIONS in debt but so far nothing has been done to alleviate the shortfall. Instead of the economy and JOBS, the Republicans are too busy gutting Roe v. Wade, wanting guns on college campuses, and the latest wingnut cause is capping the state sales tax on YACHTS on boats costing more than $250,000 — thus capping the sales tax on a yacht at $15,625. That doesn’t sound bad until you do the math: For a $20 million yacht, it’d be nearly a 98 percent reduction in the state sales tax. Nothing like kissing up to the REICH RICH again, while laying off thousands of teachers and health care workers in nursing homes!

Not enough that the Republicans have a super-majority (2/3 plus one) in the legislature. Last week, Speaker Joe Straus and Lt. Governor David Dewhurst chose to run roughshod over House and Senate rules and traditions to force a destructive partisan agenda on the people of Texas.

On Saturday, frustrated by their own incompetence and inability to pass bad legislation under the rules, Speaker Straus and House Republicans threw out the rules and cut off all debate, all amendments and all points of order to pass a “loser pays” bill that would cripple the ability of consumers and small businesses to challenge big corporations in court. Democracy is becoming as dead in Texas as in Michigan!

This week, as the deadline to pass House bills approaches, Straus and his team again threatened to throw out the rules to pass legislation that would increase class sizes and cut teacher pay, along with a “sanctuary cities” bill that would hamstring local law enforcement and threaten the rights of law-abiding Latino citizens. Their version of “papers please” forces local police to become FEDERAL immigration officers.

Last week, Dewhurst, looking ahead to a Republican primary run himself for U.S. Senate, flip-flopped on use of the Rainy Day Fund and caused a bipartisan budget agreement to collapse, resulting in $3 billion fewer dollars that could have gone to saving schools and nursing homes. In order to pass his budget, Lt. Gov. Dewhurst abandoned the Senate 2/3 rule, a move he told reporters he had been plotting since last October.
