Planned Parenthood Helps People In Many Ways – Rep. Jackie Speier’s Story!

Thanks to Lawrence O’ Donnell for showing this on his show and interviewing Rep. Speier, the Republicans don’t give a shit about women. I’ll keep looking for the Lawrence O’ Donnell clip on Youtube, here is the link to MSNBC’s embedded video. This is Rep. Speier on the floor of the house, she is awesome.

  1. Not only are they trying to ban abortion but they are also trying to destroy the environmental protection agency and all regulations. Wow is all I can say and I hope that the American people seriously wake up and vote democrat next election cycle.

  2. Too many men don’t realize what the loss of an offspring does to a mother. Not that men don’t feel loss later on as the child matures then dies, but seems a mother has great concern for her unborn or newly born. Women should have psychological counseling in a follow up. Then there is post partum depression (which caused a Texas women to drwon her five kids). Planned Parenthood does mostly everything else for women in need BUT abortion which is the last resort, not the first.

It’s just not those who lose a child in miscarriage or a needed abortion. Before my mother died (and she was high on morphine for her cancers at the time) she told me a secret she had kept all of her life. Her best friend growing up, a lady I knew well along with her husband and sons my age, had gone to Michigan to live with an aunt to have a child which she gave up for adoption. Everyone back in Indiana was told she went up there to “care for” her sick aunt! This friend died just before my mother passed and on the funeral home prayer card, I noticed she was a year older than my mother, but both were in the same graduating class. My mother then confided in me that she mourned giving up her child for adoption but this was 1932 when women had to keep such secrets. She was always wondering who had adopted her child and was always wondering about the welfare of the child. Even though she had two sons, that “lost” child left a hole in her heart her whole life. So it’s not only abortion that can bring about feelings of great loss, but also adoption, the latter the religious right believing is one of the ONLY alternatives to abortion. Problem being, however, that white children are easily placed for adoption, but minority children, those with HIV or physical/mental deformities languish in foster care instead. Gay couples more often adopt these hard to place children but then the right-wing religious oppose gay adoptions. There is no “winning” with these folks.

  3. has up the many assaults on women by the right-wing:

Top 10 Shocking Attacks from the GOP War on Women

    1) Republicans not only want to reduce women’s access to abortion care, they’re actually trying to redefine rape. After a major backlash, they promised to stop. But they haven’t.

    2) A state legislator in Georgia wants to change the legal term for victims of rape, stalking, and domestic violence to “accuser.” But victims of other less gendered crimes, like burglary, would remain “victims.”

    3) In South Dakota, Republicans proposed a bill that could make it legal to murder a doctor who provides abortion care. (Yep, for real.)

    4) Republicans want to cut nearly a billion dollars of food and other aid to low-income pregnant women, mothers, babies, and kids.

    5) In Congress, Republicans have proposed a bill that would let hospitals allow a woman to die rather than perform an abortion necessary to save her life.

    6) Maryland Republicans ended all county money for a low-income kids’ preschool program. Why? No need, they said. Women should really be home with the kids, not out working.

    7) And at the federal level, Republicans want to cut that same program, Head Start, by $1 billion. That means over 200,000 kids could lose their spots in preschool.

    8) Two-thirds of the elderly poor are women, and Republicans are taking aim at them too. A spending bill would cut funding for employment services, meals, and housing for senior citizens.

    9) Congress voted yesterday on a Republican amendment to cut all federal funding from Planned Parenthood health centers, one of the most trusted providers of basic health care and family planning in our country.

    10) And if that wasn’t enough, Republicans are pushing to eliminate all funds for the only federal family planning program. (For humans. But Republican Dan Burton has a bill to provide contraception for wild horses. You can’t make this stuff up).

In reference to #8, Gov. Perry and Texas Republicans want to cut Medicaid for nursing home care by 30%. Why not just ship them all to Alaska and let Sarah Palin put them out to sea on an ice flow.

  4. Notice that when the number 8 above is followed by a parentheses, you get a smiley face with shades in HTML! Sorry.

  5. I just stopped by some liberal blogs and found that they were blaming the reason these republithugs got elected on everyone but themselves. Go figure.

  6. Yes, all of those CONSCIENCE voters who just wanted to “send a message” either by staying home election day or voting for a third party “no-name”. But now they can bitch about the Republicons.

  7. its sickening that some people still insist that their is no difference between the two when I see it all to clearly. For one I feel that Obama has stood up for the people and accomplished a great deal… But NOOOOO Obama hasn’t done enough and gave tax breaks never mind that he set out to appeal don’t ask don’t tell. Stood up for women’s rights, etc. Still not enough and thus they convince people to go vote republican and than they cry and when things go sour.

I think they brought this on themselves in my opinion.
