Why Do Republicans Hate Women?

From the Raw Story…

Senate Republicans voted unanimously Wednesday against a bill that would work to ensure fair pay for women, the Paycheck Fairness Act. The vote was 58-41.

Despite the Senate having majority support, Democrats couldn’t muster the 60 votes they needed to overcome a Republican filibuster.

Several Republicans who voted for another women’s rights bill last year, The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, opposed this iteration.

Those senators included Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, both Republicans from Maine. The bill would have expanded enforcement of equal pay laws.

Collins argued that the bill would place undue burden on small business, and “impose increased costs and restrictions on small businesses in an already difficult economic climate.”

Isn’t that always the cop out for Republicans “impose increased costs and restrictions on small business”…and of course they never prove how this will happen. I guess paying women what they are worth is a “restriction” on these poor small businesses. What a load of fucking crap, especially coming from a woman, now I could see it coming from a good-ole-boy Republican. And my god, you wouldn’t want to “enforce”  equal pay laws now, would you?

Our great president weighed in on the whole mess with this…

I am deeply disappointed that a minority of Senators have prevented the Paycheck Fairness Act from finally being brought up for a debate and receiving a vote,” he said. “This bill passed in the House almost two years ago; today, it had 58 votes to move forward, the support of the majority of Senate, and the support of the majority of Americans. As we emerge from one of the worst recessions in history, this bill would ensure that American women and their families aren’t bringing home smaller paychecks because of discrimination.”

It is so ridiculous that this bill didn’t pass unanimously, why on earth would anyone oppose it? From the US Census numbers…

Per the US Census Bureau:

  • The mean income of males, of all races, 15 years and over, up to $250,000 per year = $41,750.
  • The mean income of females, of all races, 15 years and over, up to $250,000 per year = $25,373.

Now to be completely honest, it doesn’t surprise me at all the Republicans (almost exclusively white males) would oppose this bill. They really are stuck in a different age with their mentality. I’m sure they all long for the days of “Leave it to Beaver” where June knew her place, didn’t talk out of line, stayed in the kitchen and looked pretty all day long. But what is so maddening is that so many women vote for these good-ole-boys, against their own self interests. We live in a strange world, folks.

  3. This Ann Arbor conservative columnist (linked below) comes down hard on “liberals” who threatened Bristol Palin’s life. After all the ANONYMOUS “hater” (a term already used by the Palins to garner sympathy) just HAD to be a liberal. /snark

The guy in Wisconsin who shot up his TV set was mentally ill who also threatened to shoot his wife and probably doesn’t know the difference between a liberal and the Tea Party. Wielding a gun, he could have been sympathetic to the latter just applying his “Second Amendment solution”!

The person who mailed talcum powder to ABC last week could never have been a REICH-winger who wanted to possibly gin up sympathetic support from teabaggers.
