Where Liberalism Is Alive and Well!

Arianna Huffington Returns To Her Republican Roots

I used to be a very loyal Huffington Post reader, it was my home page on all 3 of my computers. I loved how they bashed Bush and Co. I only go over there now to check how the progress is going on them switching to being a conservative blog. I was eating dinner and I pulled out my iPhone, (yes, I’m one of them) and I pulled up my HuffPost app and this screaming headline said “Dems’ Only Hope for 2010: Make The Race About The Other Guy.”

I started reading it, of course, and came across this in the first paragraph…

Voters are shifting to the right; white antipathy to the President has intensified; the popular consensus backing Obama and his agenda has collapsed in less than a year…

Really? Go look at this post at Public Policy Polling that says just the opposite, his numbers remain strong, regardless of people not liking what the senate passed on health care reform. And of course, congress always polls low and even within the article on HP, they say republicans numbers are also slipping, but they wouldn’t let some facts get in the way of their agenda to portray President Obama and the democratic party negatively.

They go on to say this in the article…

“If the election were held today, we’d lose the House,” says Democratic campaign consultant Tom King, a view shared, off the record, by a number of his colleagues.

I thought to myself, Tom King, never heard of him and I’m one of the worst political junkies there is, just ask my wife. So I Googled him and came across only a couple of links that included him, I clicked on one and guess where I ended up, FOXNews.com. His quote was innocuous, but really, we know the type that go on FOX, right? And man it’s so easy to say “a view shared, off the record, by a number of his colleagues.” I read a little further…..

A strong consensus has emerged among Democratic operatives, based on a strategy developed under the guidance of pollster Geoff Garin. Garin declined to be interviewed for this story…

…Democrats need to turn the public’s attention to the failings of the Republican candidate and the national GOP.

So the guy they are basing the whole shitpile of an article on wouldn’t even be interviewed for the story. The rest of the article starts to talk generically about elections, cherry picking facts and quotes from campaign strategists, talking about going negative in general, lots of numbers and stuff the reader isn’t going to wade through. It then quotes from a Pew Research Center article by Andrew Kohut. They quote him correctly about some folks moving in a conservative direction on some issues, but they also didn’t bother to mention the first paragraph that read…

As with most presidents at the end of their first year in office, Barack Obama’s approval ratings have slipped in 2009, though not as much as the clamor of his critics would suggest. He is almost exactly where Ronald Reagan was at the end of 1981, when he too was struggling with the bad economy he had inherited.

So anyway, I go back to the main page and scroll down the list of articles and read a headline “House GOP Retirements Mount, May Derail Comeback Hopes.” So after reading this article that proclaims “Dems only hopes….” and then I read another article saying the opposite. At that point I knew that the screaming headline on the front page was doing exactly what they wanted it to do, attract their new conservative readership and feed the angry folks who make up their base. I would be remiss if I didn’t give you this link, to an eerie prediction made just over a year ago by Jamie at Intoxination about “progressive” blogs turning on President Obama. And please, take his advice and don’t give them any clicks, I gave them enough in writing this post.

  1. I find it so amazing that after 8 years of the Bush Regime the answer to all of our nation’s problems is now….the republicans? What a bunch of morons!

Well Jim, just between you and I….HP and FDL are making a huge mistake and it will bite them in the ass at some point! I found the following post on FDL today and thought to myself, “Yep, they’re realizing how ridiculous they were to ban themselves with the likes of fork tongued Grover Norquist all because the public option isn’t in the bill!”. Check out this new attitude…

My, my, my….they’re a lot nicer now. Even the comments were kinder and I noticed a lot of new names. Hmmmmmm, maybe some of the regulars have changed their normal name to something different because they’re embarrassed and don’t want Jane to find out? Hey, could be! I don’t know.
