2011 – The Year The Republican Party Went Completely Batshit!

Frequently Booman says exactly what I’m thinking. This is about the Republican clown debates, did they ride out on tiny bicycles? Take it away Booman…

The only thing that could possibly be interesting about any of these debates is when someone screws up their lines and accidentally says something true. Rick Perry tried that a couple of times and he never recovered. Voters are not learning anything by watching these debates. They’re just being misinformed and presented with an alternate reality that is quite different from anything normal people experience in their lives. Unless you are immersed in right-wing talk radio and Fox News, most of what they’re saying doesn’t even have a passing relationship to your understanding of the world. Their statistics are fabricated. The problems they identify don’t even exist. Their solutions are not plausible on any level you might want to consider. It’s really a lot more like pro wrestling than actual politics. Except it’s actually less entertaining than actual politics, which proves they’re doing it wrong. Even Herman Cain, who was providing some consistent comedic value for a while, is no longer funny now that he’s trying to explain how many women he’s never harassed. I know it’s hard to write about a presidential campaign if you don’t watch the debates, but I just can’t do it. My capacity to imbibe The Stupid has been maxed out.

I can’t bring myself to watch the debates either. It’s bad enough watching the highlight reels. If there are any adults left in the Republican Party, they have to be doing facepalms like hourly.

Update: If you didn’t see this quote from President Obama yesterday, it is golden!

“I don’t think it requires us to go negative in the sense of us running a bunch of ads that are false, or character assassinations,” Obama told Univision News. “It will be based on facts … We may just run clips of the Republican debates verbatim. We won’t even comment on them, we’ll just run those in a loop on Univision and Telemundo, and people can make up their own minds.”

  1. I may not learn anything from watching, but it sure does tickle my funny bone. I’ve started to look forward to these debates – and I absolutely hate reality TV. :-)

  2. I don’t watch them as there is so much better on TV and we all get to see the “highlights” dozens of times afterwards, anyway. I won’t be party to all of the FREE weekly campaign talking points offered ad nauseum to American minds. I have seen Rick Perry on David Letterman over-and-over all morning with talking heads thinking Perry is “funny” and that his comedic schtick may win back some of his teabagger following. Even with President Obama speaking all over the nation of late (and being criticized for campaigning) he doesn’t get covered all over the media like the GOP gets from these nearly weekly “debates”.

  3. I don’t watch the debates myself. The Perry line was almost painfully funny to watch but over all they are useless.

  4. I found humor in watching the debates until the audiences started cheering for people to die, and then they just scared me. I prefer crappy reality TV — at least the people on those shows, for the most part, know that they’re stupid.

  5. LOVE the Obama quote. It’s true–what else does he need to do but let them sink themselves?

  6. What I don’t think is “batshit” is the Republican plan to have “every-other-day” debates which are FREE TV time to spew their talking points and LIES to the American public to bring down our President. The “debates” are more like Obama-bashing than each candidate giving up any real solutions to the problems facing our nation. In last night’s “debate” they all concurred that Obama is doing NOTHING to keep Iran from developing nuclear weapons and of course tried to out-Israel each other. This is a lie that the White House just addressed (of course without millions of viewers hearing it like so many who tuned into CNBC and CBS this past week).

Ben Rhodes, President Obama’s deputy national security adviser for strategic communications, told reporters that “in the previous eight years before President Obama took office, you saw Iran go from having zero centrifuges spinning to thousands of centrifuges spinning. At the point in time when we took office, the international community was divided as it relates to Iran, and Iran was internally united. Today, we see the international community united in applying pressure on Iran, and we see unprecedented internal divisions within Iran’s political system.”

Michelle Bachman told the LIE that the ACLU is taking over the CIA!!! On David Gregory’s Meet the Press, she backpedaled saying it was the “ACLU philosophy” that was taking over. Of course Michelle is one of the candidates who supports water boarding torture. Gregory asked her why she didn’t support nearly all of the Pentagon generals, Colin Powell, John McCain, etc. who are against water boarding. Bachmann says she believes what DICK CHENEY says!

These “debates” with their “comedy” have become more popular than ever bringing in millions of reality TV fans. The repetitious “talking points” and lies will take seed in millions of voters’ minds and take root, re-emerging in the coming political season. Democrats and President Obama will have to spend MILLIONS in order to halt these Republican cancers.

  7. Cartoon below would be based upon having open-minded, knowledgeable voters…

I fear the constant, often unanswered LIES coming from the GOP and their Faux News, hate radio mouthpieces.

  8. Speaking of Batshit Crazy, Elisabeth Hasselbeck (Gretchen Carlson’s counterpart on The View) went off on Bill Maher this morning, monopolizing the camera for awhile. Maher even seemed a bit rattled. http://www.businessinsider.com/bill-maher-elisabeth-hasselbeck-the-view-fight-video-2011-11

  10. Has Rick Perry switched from running for president to running for Nancy Pelosi’s seat? He wants to debate her and has been Tweeting about Pelosi’s “insider trading”. Today both the Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News are running stories about how Perry has had his own lucrative “insider trading” deals in addition to all of the cronyism he has practiced over his several decades of being an elected politician.

Of course millions will hear Perry’s charges against Pelosi on Faux News, hate-talk radio, spreading like cancer over the reich-wing blogs, and only a small number will read the Texas newspapers. Perry is also getting a lot of cover at Faux News with his LIE that President Obama is “privileged” “arrogant” calling “Americans” LAZY. Of course the new campaign against the president means taking words “out-of-context” and a bold-face LIE!!

  11. I know I live in Texas where the economy is good (thanks not to Rick Perry but in part to the Eagle Ford rock layer full of natural gas where drilling (fracking) is now booming. But NATION-wide, the GDP is improving, jobs are coming back (nearly 80,000 NEW jobs in Houston over the past year with most in the last half), home sales UP in Houston, new apartment complexes coming on board all over the city and it is projected that this Christmas season nation-wide will break an all-time record for sales to consumers. What Obama RECESSION???
