Where Liberalism Is Alive and Well!

ABC, CBS and NBC Ignore The GOP’s “Screwing” of 9/11 First Responders!

Is it any wonder that a political party that was stomped in 2006 and 2008 can make a comeback just two years later? When you have the 3 major broadcast networks ignoring what that party actually does and instead just helps to spread their talking points, what the hell does anyone expect the general public to think? Unfortunately, the masses don’t go out and dig for information, they trust the major networks and newspapers as if they were still being run like they were in the 60′s, 70′s, 80′s and even some of the 90′s and 00′s. As a political junkie, with a graduate degree in communications, I’ve watched closely with horror as the commercialization, sensationalization (new word, I think…I’m like Sarah Palin now) and Foxification of the news business has happened in the last 10 to 15 years. Here is the source of this rant you are enduring, from Media Matters…

GOP blocks 9/11 first responders bill; ABC, CBS, and NBC ignore the story

December 10, 2010 2:17 pm ET by Eric Boehlert

It was kind of a big deal.

The bill is officially known as the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010 and is named after a first responder who died from a respiratory disease attributed to his rescue efforts on the morning of the Sept. 11 terror attack. The bill easily passed the House in September with a rare bout of bipartisan support. The bill’s backers expected passage in the Senate, as well.

But yesterday, every Republican senator voted against the bill. The action was part of the GOP’s obstructionist strategy of not allowing any senate action to proceed until the chamber votes on a bill that will continue to Bush era tax cuts, including those for the very wealthy.

[...]

But not at ABC, CBS or NBC. Last night, all three evening newscasts failed to report on the fact that Republicans had voted down a previously bipartisan bill designed to provide medical coverage for Sept. 11 emergency workers. At the major networks, that development was not considered newsworthy.

That’s pretty remarkable. But the larger point here is that Republicans are now practicing an unprecedented brand of obstructionism and they’re doing without having to pay much of a political price. Why? Because the press is giving them a pass. The press is pretending what Republicans are doing is normal and everyday. It’s not. It’s radical.

  1. And here I have been upset for the past two weeks only being able to receive Faux News on my Azamara ship’s satellite TV, so got a daily dose of Fox and Friends, Beck, O’Reilly and Hannity…non-stop Obama-bashing (maybe it was the same at MSNBC). Had the BBC available but too much cricket and soccer news!! So out of boredom would watch Fox until I would become nauseous. Of course Azamara, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean cruise lines are run by Richard Fain and Adam Goldstein who seemingly prefer Republicans:

  2. I’m almost too pissed off to comment rationally right now. All I can say is that I wish McConnell was within a fair distance because I’d seriously beat the piss out of him.

  3. I remember responding to one of Ed Schultz fired up segments the one he was going on about how President Obama was scared of Fox News on their Facebook page. I reminded him and the other posters that when President Obama did pushed back against Fox News his network jumped to Fox News defense.

One of the biggest myths going out there is MSNBC is the liberal counterpart to Fox News outside those three hours 6 to 7, 8 to 9 and 9 to 10( I count Hardball and Last Word as strictly political shows) MSNBC let their fair share of RNC talking points to passed as news.

I guess any news network would look liberal if you put it next to Fox News.

  4. Fox brags about their 7 million viewers which at least equal BOTH CNN and MSNBC. But how many more (not counted by Nielsen) are forced to hear Faux blatherings in public spaces? At least here Faux is the only station played in Wells-Fargo bank lobbies, 24-Hour Fitness gyms, many restaurants, and as I noted above, the only USA “news” channel allowed for the captive audiences on dozens of Royal Caribbean/Celebrity/Azamara cruise ships. However, it seems more folks from outside of the USA are cruising these days and they just laugh at Faux’s hissy-fits about the EVIL “socialists” in Canada and Europe.

I have actually quit patronizing restaurants which only allow Faux News, sometimes letting them know when I pay my check upon leaving that I won’t be back.

  5. Isn’t this just another entitlement by another name.

Hazards of the job except for the volunteers who may have acquired something but they volunteered. This “fund” makes about as much sense as paying the families of those who died in the towers.
