When Does Whistleblowing Become An Attack On America, Or Treason?
That’s the question of the day, in my mind. I think some heads need to roll once they find out who did it. If Assange was really all about exposing just wrongdoing, why did he have to expose all sorts of sensitive diplomatic information along with the few tidbits of controversy? Why all the sources and methods too? It appears like he (they) are trying to undermine the United State’s foreign policy entirely. I kind of see it as an attack on the United States and we better start defending ourselves. It will be interesting to see how the White House responds and of course, the Republicans too.

You know how the WH will respond. A scolding then off to play golf or maybe a pick up game of basket ball.
He is truly an inspiring leader.

They are filing criminal charges against wikileaks. I think that they should kill the guy the hacker that was responsible for creating wikileak as well as that guy that betrayed the United States.
ha poor liberal mouths the same thoughts as O’Reilly:

This site becomes more conservative by the day.
How do liberals decry the free release of information to the public? Thought an informed public was the only path to a functional democracy…
You like your government keeping secrets from you an your fellow citizens? Interesting. I see liberals like you and Jeff want to instead “kill the messenger.”
What a joke!
Well Joe, I guess I’m just not as anti-American as you are. I think you have a warped opinion of what a liberal is. First off, we are not monolithic like most Republicans who get their talking points from the same two sources, Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. Liberals are all across the spectrum and have all sorts of varied opinions. Trying to paint us all with a broad brush stroke shows your simplicity, in my opinion.
I am all for having an informed citizenry. I have concerns about who is informing them, is it Fox, Glenn Beck, Rush or is it a guy who clearly has an agenda to bring down the US government, Julian Assange. Even though I sometimes distrust our government, especially when the village idiots are in control….see Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al. But I also know that our government needs to keep secrets for a lot of reasons. Security and the economy being two biggies. The people who are so ideological that they think everything should be transparent are living in a fantasy world.
I have become more pragmatic in my advancing years, I guess I chalk it up to life experience, wisdom…call it what you will. And even though I am a liberal, I am also patriotic in the right sense of the word.
I’m intending this as a serious discussion, EL.
It seems you are valuing concepts like “America” and “patriotism” above your fellow (wo)man? These cables and leaks are highlighting crimes committed by “America” and those you are “patriotic” to.
Wasn’t it Benjamin Franklin that said those who would sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither? But that is exactly what is happening. You are positing, that by keeping secrets and denying our freedom to know that we are somehow more secure. But that is exactly the opposite of what is happening.
Nice post EL and you are right, (as in correct not political leaning), on.
I wonder if “Hanoi Jane” Fonda was tried and hanged for treason back in 1972, if we would have this WiKiLeaks problem today?
